MILIA (MILK SPOT) REMOVAL WIRRAL
Milia (also known as milk spots) are often mistaken for whiteheads, but are actually keratin-filled cysts that form just under the skin, looking like white or yellowish bumps on the surface.
While they are not painful or a cause for concern health-wise, Milia are not cosmetically appealing and can be removed with a simple one-off treatment.
CAUSE OF MILIA
Milia are noticeable small white spots which form under the skin, often seen around the cheeks, nose, eyes and eyelids, forehead and chest.
Milia are actually small fat deposits, where there has been a buildup of excess oils and keratin, a naturally occurring protein that helps rejuvenate hair, nails, and skin. However, these Keratin deposits can become trapped, creating small cysts or Milia to form.
Use of heavy skincare products may induce the formation of milia by trapping keratin under the skin’s surface.
At Heswall Laser Clinic have kept to the most simple and effective Milia removal technique. Using a sterilised milia removal needle and the skill of our practitioners, you will leave our clinic feeling great about your clear skin.
Milia removal involves applying a sterilised needle with inserted into the centre of the Milia to break the surface. The contents of the Milia is then drained using sterile equipment or simply squeezing it out. Once extracted the Milia is completely flat and the skin healing process begins.
At your Free Consultation our skin expert will assess your Milia and check your suitability for the treatment.
Normally Milia removal at Heswall Laser Clinic Wirral, is a single one-off treatment, however if the surface area is bigger than normal, we may recommend additional treatment to allow your skin to heal properly.
You will feel a slight stinging sensation (like a nettle) on the skin when the Milia is cauterised, and a feeling of pressure as the contents of the Milia is squeezed out.
To alleviate any discomfort we use a local anaesthetic before the treatment so the treatment should be pain-free or very minimal pain in most cases. Most of our clients tolerate the treatment very well.
A single session is sufficient in most cases to remove Milia. Treatments are based on a 30 minute session so a single or multiple Milia can be removed in one sitting.
Should another treatment be required, we recommend session intervals to be two weeks to ensure that the areas treated have healed well. You will be given an approximate number of sessions required at your consultation.
The area will look like mosquito bites after treatment as your skin will have been irritated due to contents of Milia being squeezed out. This will take a few days to completely reside.
Although unlikely, there may a be a slight scabbing around the treated area of skin, however this will heal completely in 10 days. We will advise you use certain after-care products to aid quicker skin healing. Please note that you can use mineral makeup or Blemish Balm to conceal the skin whilst healing.
